Cuenca is known in Ecuador and abroad, for its cultural and historical attractions, as well as its rich craftsmanship. To strengthen the promotion of these unique attractions, the Tourism Foundation of Cuenca has created routes to showcase the unique offerings of the city. Routes have been created for Cuenca’s Museums, Crafts, Bakers & Mill’s as well as Rural routes. The latter rural route, groups the parish of San Joaquín and the areas bordering the Yanuncay River.
On Tuesday, March 28 and Thursday, March 30 2017, the Tourism Foundation organized tours through these routes with local media representatives. The intention is to diversify the offerings available so to extend the stay of visitors in the city of Cuenca. According to a study developed by the University of Cuenca, the average stay of a visitor in the Azuay capital is approximately a day and a half. This investigation determined that 70% of the visitors consulted said they would return to Cuenca, and 76% would recommend Cuenca as a tourism destination.
